WITH NEW ENERGY INTO THE NEW DECADE
WE CONTINUE UNDETERRED
After a long time of preparations, our new homepage went online on 9th May 2018. Until the present day, this website is regularly updated and extended.
On 7th July 2018 we celebrated our 41st anniversary with the special live broadcast "Summer of Death". Presenters were Dom van Hool, Mark Andersen, Artschie, Tom, Piet van der Straaten and studio guests. The broadcast lasted more than seven hours.
Completely unexpectedly, Piet van der Straaten and Kitty von Merlot (who sporadically took part in our live broadcasts in the previous years), left Radio Sylvia in November 2018. We decided subsequently to suspend our monthly live show "Sonnabend of Death".
Instead, from 5th January 2019 the new six-hour live broadcast "Radiorandale" ran on every 1st Saturday of the month, presented by Dom van Hool, Mark Andersen and our new colleague Agatha Rabiata. In the meantime we were also able to increase our monthly shortwave airtime (6070/3955 kHz).
From 22nd January 2020 Radio Sylvia transmitted on DAB+ in Dublin (Ireland) via the Irish platform "FreeDAB", but only for a short time. On 20th February 2022 "FreeDAB" was silenced by the Irish authorities, and so this experiment ended rather abruptly.
Of course we also had to cope with corona-related limitations that were common at that time. As an example, on 4th April 2020 we aired a "Radiorandale Quarantine Special" with our "Disease Emergency Staff", consisting only of Dom van Hool and Agatha Rabiata.
But we insisted on celebrating our 44th anniversary properly on 3rd July 2021 with the second edition of our special live broadcast "Summer of Death". Presenters were Dom van Hool, Artschie, Mark Andersen and Agatha Rabiata.
In September 2021 we were able to expand our programme offer: Pariah Burke from the USA hosted his "Hard, Heavy & Hair Show" on 9th September for the first time on Radio Sylvia. Since then the show is on the air on every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
And there was another programme change in 2021: The "Blackout", which had already run on Radio Sylvia in the past, returned on 10th April 2021. Subsequently Mark Andersen presented the show on every 2nd Saturday of the month from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. From 13th August 2022, the programme was extended to two hours.
For mobile use, we put an additional 64 kbit/s stream into operation on 16th January 2022. In spite of the low data rate, the stream provides a very good sound quality due to the aacPlus coding.
